Chad Pastotnik of Deep Wood Press has recently started a blog where he talks about projects he’s working on and the day-to-day activities of running his press. DWP continues the ages-old tradition of letterpress printing and hand-crafting quality books in picturesque northern Michigan.
It’s a great opportunity to witness first hand the work and planning that goes into producing these lovely books, and Chad’s experience shines through in every blog post.
If you’re not familiar with the work of Deep Wood Press, you might be familiar with a project that Chad and Chester River Press worked on together – Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, which has gotten a glowing review from Chris over at Books and Vines.
One of Chad’s current projects is “The Intruder,” which is a single chapter from a book by John Voelker titled “Trout Madness.” It will be printed on dampened Hahnemühle Schiller stock and set in Janson on an 8×10″ page size in an edition of 150 books with a foreword by Richard F. Vander Veen and illustrations by Jim Westergard.
I’ve added this to my RSS feed and I look forward to hearing more from Chad.
