For anyone new to letterpress printing, these are a few videos that showcase the craft quite well.
Upside Down, Left To Right: A Letterpress Film is a short documentary by Danny Cooke on the fine art of letterpess printing. It features Paul Collier from Plymouth University as he sets up his machine to print a little poster. The ending credits are a nice treat!
Birth of a Book from Glen Milner is a short video shot at Smith-Settle Printers in Leeds, England as they print and bind Suzanne St Albans’ Mango and Mimosa. Incidentally, they also handled the binding for The Strage Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Hand & Eye Editions that I reviewed before.
ink&paper is a short video from Ben Proudfoot about two small shops in Los Angeles – a paper shop called McManus and Morgan and a letterpress printer called Aardvark Letterpress. Both have been around for years, and it was nice to see how they work and interesting to hear about the challenges they both face and what keeps them going every day.
